This report is designed to provide a framework for a discussion of general problems of African monetary cooperation. To this end it appears to the Secretariat that it will be most useful if I divide my remarks into four sections. First, the historical background of events which have led to the present meeting; second: the role of monetary cooperation in relation to economic development in Africa; third:
various aspects of monetary cooperation which have been discussed.
