The Commission considered 7 agenda items the most important of which was the Follow up to the Fourth World Conference on Women and to the 23ed special session of the General Assembly entitled "Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century" and the two thematic issues indicated below. The issues considered under agenda item NO 3 included: • Review of gender mainstreaming in entities of the United Nations system; • Eradicating poverty, including through the empowerment of women throughout their life cycle in a globalizing world; and • Environmental management and mitigation of natural disasters: a gender perspective.
