Report on an advisory mission to Zimbabwe on capacity building for sustainable agricultural production

Abstract

In telling Zimbabwe's story, the report starts by defining the performance of the country's agricultural sector since independence {Chapter II). This is followed in Chapters HI to VIII by a review of the role of each of the critical capacities in ensuring rapid agricultural growth and enhanced food security and an examination of the approach followed by Zimbabwe in building and or better utilizing the requisite capacities. Each of the six chapters also provides an analysis of the success elements which made the revolution possible in Zimbabwe as well as of the failure elements which may have prevented an even more dramatic revolution from taking place. The lessons that other African countries can learn from Zimbabwe's experiences are also discussed in each of the six chapters. The conclusions of the report are presented in Chapter IX.
