This inaugural issue of Rural Progress, replacing the Rural Development Newsletter and African Women, highlights initiatives and technologies improving rural living conditions in Africa. Topics include village technology programs for women, housing improvements in Zanzibar, refugee situations in Botswana, and a seminar on integrated rural development in Rwanda. It stresses local participation, women’s integration in development, and the adoption of sustainable, culturally relevant technologies. The bulletin also underscores women’s role in food production and decision-making in nutrition and agriculture. Rural Progress aims to share knowledge, foster cooperation, and promote self-reliance in African rural communities.
