Abstract
Looking to the future the possibility has already been noted of progressively strengthening many functions of local government through mechanisation and automation. But whether operating the machinery of the future or dealing with the more mundane but equally urgent tasks of the present, local government in Africa can never be properly conducted without enthusiastic dedicated and well-trained personnel. In the preceding chapters it has been shown that the field of local government is now so wide that a great deal of technical and specialized knowledge is involved.
