This paper aims to summarize in brief the present status of current agricultural statistics in Africa and describes the various methods used in collecting statistics on crop areas, crop yields, and livestock numbers. The project of the statistical survey of Africa aims at the improvement of various kinds of statistics agriculture pertaining to the different sectors of the economy of African countries. Since agriculture is the most predominant activity in most African countries, it is only to be expected that the improvement of agricultural statistics will receive a high priority in the long-term programmes of statistical development being drawn up by individual countries as recommended by the Economic commission for Africa.
