In December 1960 a Seminar on Participation of Women in Public Life was held in Addis Ababa. It was organized by the United Nations in collaboration with the Government of Ethiopia. In preparing for this year's "Regional Meeting on the Role of Women in National Development'' to take place again in Addis Ababa, I found the report on that 1960 Seminar not only most enlightening but also a document of the first order, Our Committee, which is expected to consider the position of women in Africa and their contribution to public life and to the development effort, cannot ignore the findings of that 1960 Seminar
