The geology of Libya was little know prior to independence (1951) some surface mapping and local geological description made on a broad scale giving a little information of the geology of the country foreign geologist mostly Italians publication report on their geological work mainly between the two world war after the second wars the French geological worked in Fezzan province USA geologist surveyed the country after the independence up to 1964 and accomplished several report these and earlier works served as basis for the compiled geological maps of Libya which were accomplished by 1958
