The developing African region is divided (as of the end of into 38 independent States and a number of non-self-governing territories. Half of the countries of the region nave individually an annual income of less than 400 million 03 dollars - and this estimate include subsistence production. In relation to the scales of production required for the efficient- operation of many brandies of modern economic activity the markets offered by moot African countries are therefore very small Indeed. Moreover, the-volume of intra-African trade is small – and hardly increasing - in relation to the trade of the region with the rest of the world
