This report is in response to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution No.37/245 both in the context and recognition of the worsening food situation in Africa where technology is recognized as one of the key factors responsible for Africa’s low food and agricultural productivity. The report is based on the lead paper by the ECA, and other papers submitted by FAO, OAU, ILO, ILCA, ICIPE and ILARD to the Inter-Agency consultation on food and Agriculture Technology in Africa and the International year for the mobilization of the required financial and technological resources, held in Addis Ababa 23-27 May 1983. The papers and the statements of the participating organizations provided essential inputs to this study and a very substantial contribution was made by the FAO.
