Activities of the ECA in the field of African natural gas transportation by pipeline

Africa's proven natural gas reserves exceed 7,000 billion cubic meters, yet exploration activities remain limited, with Algeria, Libya, and Egypt leading due to their trade with OECD countries. Many African countries flare significant amounts of associated gas, which could be utilized or reinjected. Global examples, such as the ex-Soviet Union, Norway, and the Netherlands, demonstrate the economic benefits of natural gas utilization, including enhanced hard currency reserves. The share of natural gas in the global economy could rival petroleum if economically viable transportation methods are developed. Gas prices are relatively low compared to other energy sources, making it a cost-effective option.
