Appropriate technology at ITC the Netherlands

Abstract

This paper contains a brief outline of the results of some ITC-research in the field of what is nowadays called "APPROFRIATE TECHNCLOGY'‘. Appropriate technology may be defined as: That technology which makes the largest contribution to development goals, within the framework of the existing economic, social, political and other relevant circumstances. In the light of the ITC activities, the definition can more simply be phrased as: to bridge the gap between the modern production methods and techniques in photogrammetry and cartography and the actual situation in mapping organizations by means of applied research for alternative methods, techniques and instrumentation. The ITC results in the area of appropriate technology have been applied in several placed around the world.
