This document presents the Egyptian experience in the integrated development of the iron and steel industry, focusing on the establishment and evolution of this sector in Egypt from 1940 to 2000. It is structured into three main parts: Part I discusses the metallurgical aspects, forecasting future developments, international cooperation, and factors affecting collaboration in the iron and steel industry. Part II details the planning phases of the iron and steel industry in Egypt, highlighting the establishment of the Egyptian Iron and Steel Company, the construction of various plants, and the challenges faced during different phases of development. Part III concludes with recommendations for future development, emphasizing the need for accurate information, state involvement, and international cooperation to enhance the industry's growth in the Eastern and Southern African subregion.
