The concept note discusses the status of gender inequality in social, economic, and political sectors in Africa and its implications for implementing and monitoring international and regional commitments. It highlights the importance of gender equality for sustainable development and poverty reduction. Despite various commitments and frameworks, progress on gender equality remains unsatisfactory. The document outlines objectives to empirically identify the status of gender inequality, assess policies, and recommend improvements, including the role of social protection measures.
