Report of the regional training workshop on demographic estimates and projections in Africa : Accra,Ghana, 15 - 29 july 1985

Abstract

Three phases may be distinguished in the activities of ECA with a view to creating awareness of population problems by its member States and encouraging them to integrate population variables into their socioeconomic planning. During the first phase much effort was devoted to data collection in order to fill the gaps in the data required for socioeconomic planning. Despite the enormous effort and resources devoted to this activity, only a limited success has been achieved and that has been largely due to the African Census Programme. Some member States still lack reliable data and need assistance and training to reinforce their national staff engaged in this work.
