This report assesses the achievements of mortality levels, trends, and differentials in relation to the goal of "Health for All" by the year 2000 among ECA member states. It highlights the progress made since the adoption of the World Population Plan of Action (WPPA) and the Alma-Ata Declaration, emphasizing the importance of primary health care (PHC) as a strategy for improving health outcomes. The report analyzes demographic, socio-economic, and health indicators across selected countries in Eastern, Southern, and West Africa, revealing significant disparities in mortality rates and health access. Key findings indicate that while some countries have made progress in reducing infant and child mortality, many still lag behind the targets set by international agreements. The report concludes with recommendations for strengthening health policies, improving data collection, and enhancing community involvement in health initiatives to achieve the goals of Health for All.
