This report comes in response to the insistent demand by machineries for the advancement of African women to be informed about socio-economic trends likely to have repercussions on the living conditions of African women. It also comes in response to the concern expressed by member states in resolution 686 (xxv) adopted by the 16th meeting of the ECA Conference of Ministers requesting the secretariat to organize a briefing session on the African Alternative Framework to structural Adjustment Programmes (AAF/SAP) during which experts would endeavor to work out measures for reducing the adverse impact of such programmes on women.
