Abstract
The aim of this study is to contribute to strengthening Kenyan disaster risk management policy and planning by increasing awareness of local and institutional practices in response to floods. This study looks at the frequent flooding in the Budalangi plains on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya in Bunyala Sub-county, and is justified by research findings that indicate current coping strategies are ineffective despite interventions by NGOs and the government. And the paper produces a compelling story that depicts real -life impacts of flooding on households.
