Despite having baseline figures on most Millennium Development Goal indicators that were relatively low compared to other regions, Africa made considerable progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals, including in terms of placing more children in primary school, bridging the gender
gap in primary school enrollment, increasing the representation of women in national parliaments and reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS. These achievements underscored the importance of making national commitments and forging global partnerships in order to realize development objectives.
