Abstract
This document introduces participants to the use of data, statistics, indicators and indices in gender-aware economics and economic policy-making, highlighting that standard indices and indicators often fail to reflect gender issues because of the still widely used concept of the household head as a unit of economic analysis. The module also introduces participants to the most well-known international and African gender-related indices, as well as the Human Development Index on which one of them is based.
