This document focuses on progress report on the implementation of the MDGs and international development and environmental protection agendas in West Africa. The primary goal of this report is to assess progress made in achieving the MDGs in West Africa. More specifically, this involves (i) reviewing the performance evaluation of the 15 West African countries regarding the achievement of MDG 7 by analyzing data obtained from indicators on: (a) proportion of land area covered by forest,(b) CO2 emissions,(c) consumption of ozone-depleting substances, (d) proportion of population with access to safe drinking water, and d) proportion of population with access to improved sanitation facilities; (ii) draw up a list of the concerns raised by the different countries on the MDG process and their post-2015 expectations obtained from their national consultations; (iii) present challenges, best practices and experiences arising from the implementation of MDG 7; and (iv)propose measures deemed relevant to ensure environmental sustainability in West Africa without undermining the sub-region’s industrialization capabilities.
