Abstract
The paper argues that mass media institutions in Africa have a responsibility and the opportunity to address these issues. The paper urges media professionals in Africa to take advantage of the newly positive global environment that favors addressing issues affecting youth (as underlined at the International Conference on Population and Development - ICFD), and harness modern media and communications technologies to tackle the impediments to the development of youth talent and energies. It proposes specific ways in which the media can help to overcome each of the three obstacles identified in the paper.
