Report of the training seminar on international trade statistics for English-speaking government statistician

Abstract

The training seminar on International Trade Statistics for English-speaking Government Statisticians was held at EGA headquarters, Addis Ababa Ethiopia from 26 November to 5 December 1990. The training seminar observed that a significant amount of detailed international trade statistics were produced by countries in Africa and that United Nations recommended concepts and definitions were generally applied but with some deviations as in other parts of the world reflecting national needs, . There were a range of problems found by many countries including problems of computerization and programming to derive the necessary statistics from customsr data delays in printing, difficulties in collaboration between customs, administration and. statistical offices and a need for increased specificity in some aspects of the United Nations concepts and definitions.
