The mission had the following objectives: (i) to represent ECA at the 24th session of the Statistical Commission which was held at the United Nations Headquarters from 23 February to 4 March 1987; (ii) to participate in the pre-session consultations between the UN Statistical Office, the Regional Commission UN Specialized Agencies and other international bodies in preparation for the Statistical Commission; (iii) to discuss with the Institute of Statisticians (10s) in London, on the way to New York, the implementation of the part of the project entitled "EEC Assistance to the Statistical Training Programme for Africa" which has been subcontracted to IOS and to enquire about the statistical training activities of the Institute which are of interest to the African region; (iv) to discuss with the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) and the UN Statistical Office the project entitled "Census Training Programme in Sub-Saharan Africa"; (v) to discuss with the UNDP Headquarters the project entitled "Statistical Development Programme for Africa (SDPA)".
