This paper focused on the overview of economic and social conditions in Africa 2010. Africa has sustained and strengthened the economic recovery that started in the aftermath
of the recent global crisis with an average GDP growth rate of 4.7 per cent in 2010 compared to
2.3 per cent in 2009. Real GDP per capita also expanded in 2010 by 2.4 per cent for the continent
as a whole. Oil-exporting countries expanded more strongly than oil-importing countries.
Notwithstanding downside risks, growth prospects remain optimistic for Africa with an expected
average growth rate of 5 per cent in 2011.
