Conference on highway engineering in Africa Addis Ababa April 1974: maintenance of roads in the Ivory Coast

Abstract

The author discusses the part played by the existing road network in the Ivory Coast in the continuing economic growth of the country, and relates this to the growth in average daily traffic. The construction and maintenance of road types is described in detail, as are the effects of climatic conditions and axle loads on the workload of the respective maintenance departments. A complete breakdown is given of the government departments associated with the road network, both in relation to equipment and personnel. The author indicates that a high level of service is required from the maintenance departments, and discusses how this may best be achieved within the limits of available finance.
