The cost of hunger in Africa : social and economic impact of child undernutrition

Abstract

This paper outlines the rationale, design, and preliminary outcomes of a multi-country initiative led by the AU Commission (AUC) and ECA, to quantify the social and economic impacts of hunger in Africa. Supported by the World Food Programme (WFP) and other partners, AUC and ECA seek to use the outcomes of the initiative known as the “Cost of Hunger in Africa Study” to raise awareness, build consensus and catalyze action toward reducing child under nutrition (ChU) in Africa.
