This report aims to provide insights into the challenges and opportunities facing young women in becoming entrepreneurs, in the broader context of the vulnerabilities they experience. In addition to the findings of the global and African literature on youth and women’s entrepreneurship, this report draws from a small survey done of young women entrepreneurs in Ethiopia who are operating in the informal economy. This survey collected information on the motivation of and opportunities for young Ethiopian women in becoming entrepreneurs, the barriers they encounter in setting up and running businesses, the use of business development services, membership in business associations, and the vulnerabilities confronting them as young entrepreneurs.
