The continent is acquiring industrial technology at a very fast pace. For instance, imports of capital goods have increased nearly three times and royalties and licensing fee payments have increased almost six times between 2000 and 2008. This trend is likely to continue as Africa will have to acquire new and improved technologies to produce lifesaving treatments, increase access to modern energy and communication services, develop its industrial base and generate wealth and jobs.
