Report to the follow-up committee of the Lusaka-Based MULPOC on the implementation of the food and agriculture aspects of the United Nations programme of action for African economic recovery and development (UN-PAAERD), 1986-1990

Abstract

The report provided a land-scape of the country’s major activities in the agriculture sector with a particular focus on the salient issues underlined in the program including food emergencies; rehabilitation's of the sector; structural reforms; control of drought and desertification; and refugees, displaced persons and victims of natural calamities. Moreover, it also pointed out apparent inadequacies in the programs implementation. particularly so in such vital areas as emergency preparedness, food security strategies, early warning systems, support services, resource requirements, agro-industries, public sector management, drought and desertification control and agricultural policy planning.
