Abstract
A recent study carried out to assess the gender -responsiveness/ sensitivity in ECA programs and among its staff, included a needs assessment. One of the needs identified was that of gender training within the commission. In this respect the preparation of a manual on gender and gender mainstreaming was deemed necessary for facilitating the gender training activities envisaged for the commission. The purpose of the manual, which draws on several training manuals, is to familiarize all ECA staff with gender concepts and gender terminology as well as to assist and enable program managers and officers to mainstream gender into programs on one hand, and for all secretariat personnel to develop a culture of gender sensitivity in the daily activities of the commission.
