Abstract
This paper focuses on assessment of power pooling arrangements in Africa. Security and reliability of electricity supply has been the driving force behind power system interconnections and promotion of cross-border electricity trade. Indeed, countries and/or utilities have interconnected their power systems to provide for increased quality and reliability of electricity service, lower electricity production costs among the regional trading partners, reduced level of required reserve capacity in the connected grids, and improved national energy security, including mutual support in time of emergencies.
