Performance review of science and technology policy institutions in Gambia, Madagascar, Malawi Senegal, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe.

Abstract

This document examines planning, including development of science and technology policy and programming of science and technology activities. The study has revealed that limited efforts have been made to apply science and technology in a practical way to solve socio-economic problems. This has been due mainly to the lack of integration of explicit science and technology policies with the broader socio-economic policies. Nor have science and technology plans and programmes been integrated into national socio-economic development plans and programmes in all the countries studied. The study has also confirmed the lack of inter and inter-sectoral linkages within which science and technology could be made to contribute effectively to the development process.
