This publication is the third edition of the new annual series on African statistics published by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) under the title Africa in Figures. It is meant to serve as an appropriate vehicle for disseminating, in a compact pocket book format, important basic facts of Africa in relation to the world and also about each African country. The data presented in this publication are selected from the ECA Regional Statistical Data Base (ECA-RSDB) which is a storehouse of statistical data compiled regularly by the UNECA Statistics Division. The publication is divided into two parts, the first part contains recent demographic, social and economic statistics on Africa versus the World 'including graphs to show trends over a period of fifteen years or beyond. The second part shows, for each African country, important and frequently consulted statistical data.
