IThe mission was carried out at Zomba from 30 January to 5 February 1984. At the outset a general meeting was held, under the chairmanship of the Commissioner of Census and Statistics to discuss the progress of the labour force survey through different stages and the major problems faced. The latest position was that all the completed questionnaires were available in the NSO but editing and coding had not started. The mission, therefore, suggested a small-scale exercise to be under taken to examine the quality of data. In this exercise a sub-sample of about 100 EA's enumerated in the survey was to be selected from both urban and rural areas, households were to be drawn at random from each EA and the main variables for the selected households were to be tabulated in sequence to examine consistency, quality and magnitude. This exercise was ably carried out by the staff of demographic and social statistics section of the NSO under the supervision of its senior officers and the mission.
