Angola is one of the most promising countries in Africa with respect to mineral resource development. It is currently one of the major oil producers in Africa, and has potential to become a major force in production of gem quality diamonds as well as other mineral resources. The Angolan economy in general, and mineral development in specific, is deeply affected by the security situation. When urging Angola not to lose time in seizing all opportunities that the new situation of peace and development prospects offered, it is important to remember that the country must be assisted by the international community in dealing with the cost for the reestablishment of the environment for mineral resources development. This of course, depends on security in the country side and realistic legislation.
