This paper focuses on the report of the workshop on urban problems: the role of women in urban development. A workshop on the role of women in.-urban development was held in Lagos, Nigeria, within the framework of the programme of work of the Economic Commission for Africa on urbanization and the problems created by the rapid growth of towns in Africa. The workshop was opened by the Minister for Economic Development Federation of Nigeria, who - before delivering his own speech – read a message of welcome from the Federal Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafewa Balewa. It was closed by Mrs. Flora Azikiwe, First Lady of Nigeria.
