Abstract
This paper focuses on some African perspectives on the third ministerial conference of the world trade organization at preparations for the Seattle WTO ministerial conference. A key and often repeated objective of the WTO is to ensure that all members share equitably in the benefits of a rule-based multilateral trading system. In addition, the organization's claim to universality rests on the full integration of all countries into the global trading system, irrespective of their different levels of development.
