Abstract
The Compendium seeks to show what has worked or is promising to work and facilitate change towards a better life for women and their dependants. It also shows that there are difficulties that have to be taken into consideration and addressed. But however daunting these difficulties are, they cannot reverse the trend and the momentum that is being observed across the continent. In almost every country, gender mainstreaming with the aim of greater gender equality is gaining ground.
