Abstract
The present study on prospects for increasinq the utilization of indiaenuous coal in the, enerery sectors of Africa puts emphasis on the use of African coal as an internal factor input towards the economic development of the continent. Due to factors such as the uneven distribution of coal resources among the African countries, the need to conserve foreign exchange where African coal could substitute imported enerqy, and the scarcity of national investment resources for coal development, the study stresses the necessity for co-operation by African countries and institutions for the effective development and utilization of the coal resources of the reqion.
