The principal objective of the meeting was to offer experts from the West African countries a forum for reflection and exchange on the appropriate strategies and actions by which to promote youth self-employment in Africa. The specific objectives assigned to the meeting were to analysis causes of and trends in youth unemployment, as well as the challenges linked to youth self-employment in the sub-region; to review national policies on accelerated growth and poverty reduction with a view of identifying any gaps in terms of job creation and jobs for the youth in particular; to share the experiences, challenges and good practices at the national level and to formulate recommendations on action-oriented strategies for the promotion of youth self employment in the West African member states.en
