The workshop was opened by brief statements of the representatives of ECA/African Centre for Women, the Executive Director of Akina Mama wa Afrika and a keynote address from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Brigadier Moses AH. The statements and the dialogue that followed stressed the important role women entrepreneurs play in the economic development process and the need to build their capacities and create an enabling environment at national and regional levels for their enterprises to flourish. While appreciating the initiative of such organized workshops, obstacles that still limit women's role in the private sectors, reduce direct foreign investments, and lower women's competitiveness at the international market were pointed out.
