This is the second volume of a series of Education iytonographs concentrating on Trends and Issues In African Education. The contributions in this volume are papers on non-formal education presented at the Fifth Biennial Training Development Conference of the African Association for Training and Development held in Addis Ababa 19-29 November 1984. The first article focuses attention on some basic and major issues in the consideration of non-formal education. One such major issue in Africa is the concept of non-formal education as applied in its various forms in many African countries, and in this regard, the paper identifies three possible modes of nonformal education.
