The meeting was attended by high level experts and practitioners in the field of food security invited in their personal capacity as well as experts from relevant United Nations agencies and sub-regional
and regional institutions. The list of participants is provided in Annex 1 The meeting was formally opened by Mr. Josue Dione, Director of the Sustainable Development Division of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) after brief welcome remarks by Mr. Don Oben, the Co-ordinator of the Meeting. In his opening statement, Mr. Dione welcomed the experts on behalf of Dr. K.Y. Amoako, the Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of ECA and expressed his appreciation to them for honouring the invitation to share their experiences in the vast and intricate area of food security.
