The Working Group on Water (WGW) of the United Nations System-wide Special Initiative on Africa (UNSIA) is co-chaired by the World Bank (WB) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). At its 1996 October meeting at Paris/the WGW identified four African countries (Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique and Uganda) and the Zambezi river basin; (at ECA's suggestion) for focus for concerted actions by the UN agencies in the initial phase of implementation of the provisions of UNSIA.
