Mission report of consultations with Southern Africa Transport and Communication Commission (SATCC) Secretariat and Collection of data for the reorientation of the implementation by ECA of the regional transport data base programme

Abstract

The Eleventh Meeting of the Conference of Ministers of Transport and Communications which was held in November 1997 in Cairo, Egypt reviewed the mid term evaluation of activities of UNTACDA II including some other activities for the implementation of the regional transport data base programme. Discussions on the outcome of evaluations of the data base component of the programme resolved that because of the importance of data for transport and communications evaluations and management, ECA should continue with the implementation of the programme up to the year 2000 and beyond. Phase I of the programme covered mainly the testing, by pilot countries, of recommendations of field study report which was prepared by Canadian consultants hired by ECA and World Bank for the programme.
