This paper on gender and cartography attempts to accomplish a number of goals - it explores the UN's rote in promoting gender equality ; touches on social cartography ; attempts to explain what gender issues are and why they should be of interest to cartographers ; outlines some genderbased research in the field of human resources that should help men and women work together more fruitfully ; and describes gender-related research and activities of the ICA, including a summary of the 1991 study on women's participation in the ICA.
