Abstract
The Addis Ababa Plan of Action for Statistical Development in Africa in the 1990s was formulated by the Joint Conference of African Planners, Statisticians and Planners in January 1990, and together with the Strategy for its implementation, adopted by the UNECA Conference of Ministers responsible for economic development and planning in May 1990 and April 1992 respectively, because both bodies were concerned about the decline in the quality and quantity of African Statistics towards the end of the 1970s and throughout the 1980s. Further, they were convinced that there was a need for concerted action by all concerned with statistical development in Africa, including African Governments, national institutions, bilateral and multilateral agencies and non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations as well as international organizations.
