Abstract
The energy sector in most African countries consist of a single or two national public entities operating as a monopoly. This structure is based on the assumption that energy is a strategic commodity which is essential for economic growth and the state has the responsibility to ensure a reliable energy supply at affordable prices to its citizens and the economy at large.
