The mission of the Food Security and Sustainable Development Division (FSSDD) is to ensure food security and sustainable development in member countries of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) by planning and implementing a critical program to raise policy makers' awareness of the urgency of food, population and environmental concerns in development planning and encouraging ECA member countries to develop and take full advantage of their abilities to foster and utilize science and technology. The Second Meeting of the Advisory Board will follow up on the recommendations of its First Meeting which took place in September 1999, and provide further guidance to the division's work. In this connection, the meeting will examine the extent to which the Division has implemented the recommendations of the First Meeting of the Board; review FSSDD's Issues Paper which has been improved in line with the recommendations of the First Meeting and has been titled: "Population, Environment, and Agriculture Linkages in Africa's Food Security and Sustainable Development".
